Camp Fannin

January Annual Meeting & Schedule of Events

January, 2024

Dear Camp Fannin Family:

The time is here for our 81st reunion (the camp opened in May, 1943) on April 12th & 13th, 2024 and we write to bring you up to date with news of some of the great things for our event. We have a outstanding keynote speaker:

RETIRED US AIR FORCE COLONEL JIM RAY

KEYNOTE SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY

The Keynote speaker for our Annual Reunion will be Retired US Air Force Colonel Jim Ray, pilot of an F-105D Thunderchief fighter-bomber in the Vietnam Way, and a POW for over six and a half years in the infamous “Hanoi Hilton.  After repatriation, Colonel Ray flew AT-38’s and F-4-D&E Phantom jet fighters.  His Pentagon tour was as Director of International Logistics in support of the Republic of Korea; and he served three years as a diplomatic Attache in our embassy in Rome, Italy.  He retired from his 27 year career as Commander of an Air Force Technical Training Wing.”

An added attraction at the Reunion will be a Patriotic quilt donated by Jerriann Massey with Christian Quilt Guild of East Texas to raise funds for the Camp Fannin Association.  Tickets will be sold for $10.00 per  chance from this registration sheet and during the annual reunion.  Tickets will be held at the registration desk.  The quilt will be displayed at the reunion.

Friday events will be at the Sleep Inn on Donnybrook Avenue behind Lowe’s.

The Saturday events are all on the campus of the University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center.  Parking will be designated by Event Parking Signs.  Carts will be provided if needed, to the Memorial Site at 1:00 P.M.  We thank the University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center and president Dr. Kirk Calhoun for their hospitality.

This will be a great 81st reunion and we are looking forward to seeing each of you and your family.  The second edition of Gordon Neilson’s Historic Camp Fannin book will be available at the reunion.  University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center and the CFA Board are co-sponsors of the newest edition with all the historic photos we have acquired since the first printing of the book.  We will have the book available for purchase at the reunion. We will have new T- shirts with pockets available for purchase.  Please visit our new Camp Fannin Exhibits at the American Freedom Museum, South of Tyler at 1051 North Houston Street in Bullard Texas!  Their website is www.americanfreedom.museum.org

Looking forward to great spring weather and seeing you at the reunion.  Please return the enclosed registration form. We invite you to support our memorial fund endowment and expanded website campfannin.com with your contributions.
