Dear Camp Fannin family:
The time is nearing for our reunion on March 31st and April 1st, 2017 and we write to bring you up to date with news of some of the great things for our event.
A wonderful lady in Arizona is in possession of a sailing ship made by a German POW at Camp Fannin. The ship is wooden and stands approximately 4 ft. tall. The lady is moving to a nursing home and wants to donate the ship to Camp Fannin. We are working with a shipping company to have it here in time for the reunion.
Three ships were made by the German POW’s and we now know.where two of the ships are. One is on loan to the Texas State History Museum in Austin and we would like to find the third ship. If you have any information on the location of the third ship please let us know .
Friday afternoon we will gather for refreshments at the Sleep Inn on Donnybrook with CF A exhibits. At 5:00 P.M. we will go to Spring Creek BBQ for a meal in their private dining room.
We will begin on Saturday with coffee, orange juice and doughnuts at 10:00 AM. in the Ornelas Auditorium Lobby, at U. T. Health N. E., with a brief business meeting in a classroom off of the lobby at 10:30 AM. Our memorial service will begin at 11:30 AM. and lunch will begin at 12:30 P.M. followed by the laying of the wreath at the Memorial site at approximately 1:15 to 1:30 P.M.
We write to say that getting from one event to the other will be easy this year. The cafeteria is being re-modeled so lunch will be served just outside the auditorium. The health center will have carts or you can drive your car to the Memorial site for the laying of a beautiful wreath.
This will be a great reunion and we are looking forward to seeing each of you. UT Health has agreed to co-sponsor with our CFA board Gordon Neilson’s book with the all of the historic photos we have acquired since the first printing of the book. You have the opportunity to be a sponsor of the book now, by filling out the attached form.
